Edmund Marquez

Agency Principal
Allstate

Mr. Edmund Marquez was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona to a loving and supportive family. Edmund comes from a long line of business owners and entrepreneurs. Edmund’s grandfather owned a tortilla factory, barber shop, insurance agency, restaurant, and Kirby vacuum cleaner store. Edmund’s father owned an Allstate insurance agency for 30 years, his mother owned and operated a dinner-theater company, and his sister is the President and CEO of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Edmund attended Sabino High School where he was on the Student Council, active in the schools theater group, and played soccer, football, baseball, ran track, and in 1990 was named Tucson’s Hispanic Athlete of the Year.

Upon graduating, Edmund first attended Pima Community College before moving on to the University of Arizona. At the U of A, Edmund was an active member in Pi Kappa Alpha (PIKE), where he was the pledge-class President, and was also a member of the campus, Intra-Fraternity Council. Edmund also ran for Senator for the U of A in 1993, and was involved in Intramural sports. The highlight of college was meeting Wendy Montano, whom he married and has two beautiful kids with, Alyssa and Diego.

Throughout college, Edmund worked in his father’s Allstate Insurance Agency, helping earn Agency of the Year in 1994, and numerous sales achievement awards. In his senior year of college, Edmund served as the Co-Director of the Cedric Dempsey Cancer Center Run, the largest student organized running event in the U.S. The run benefited cancer research at the world renowned Arizona Cancer Center. That event broke all previous records for the event, by raising over $500,000 and hosting over 6,000 participants.

When the successful event was over, a local fast food chain, eegee’s, hired Edmund as their Director of Promotion while he finished out his senior year of school. While at eegee’s, Edmund helped redesign an eegee’s restaurant into a display for children’s artwork in the downtown area, and put together a successful marketing campaign with the MLB team, The Colorado Rockies.

Upon graduation, Edmund turned down an offer from Warner Bros in California, and opened his own Allstate Insurance agency. Edmund was one of the first agencies in the Country to partner with auto dealerships, and worked with 30 different car dealerships in the Tucson area, and was available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Through this partnership, Edmund won numerous awards and recognition from Allstate, and was the top producing agent in the Western part of the United States for 3 years straight.

Early in 2000, Edmund purchased his father’s 30 year old agency, three Chevron gas stations and an ARCO AM/PM gas station. In May of 2000, Edmund opened a car dealership called, Allstar Auto Exchange, on the south side of Tucson, which is the predominantly Hispanic side of Tucson. He also opened Allstar Service Center, WADE Warranty Company, and Tempest Financial.

In August 2006, Edmund was awarded a Suzuki auto franchise from American Suzuki Motor Company. In December 2006 “Edmund Marquez Suzuki” was opened and was the first ever Mexican-American owned New Car store in the history of Tucson. It was also the first ever new car store on the south side of Tucson. The Suzuki store was very well received by the Hispanic population of Tucson, and the south side of the city, and was soon ranked in the Top 10 for the west coast of the U.S. per Suzuki. Unfortunately, after two years of operation, and due to the drastic downturn in the economy, Edmund shut the doors of the Suzuki store in November of 2008.

In 2009, Edmund enthusiastically returned to his Allstate Insurance Agency. In January of 2010, Edmund acquired another large agency on the east side of Tucson, and in 2011 purchased a third Allstate agency. Edmund now owns the largest captive insurance agency in Southern Arizona, and is classified by Allstate as a Mega Agency. Edmund is the second largest Hispanic Allstate agent in the US.

Edmund's crowning achievement is his amazing family. Along with his beautiful wife Wendy, Edmund enjoys spending time and traveling with his two children, Alyssa and Diego. He is an avid cyclist, riding on the Jim Click Racing Cycling Team.

Edmund continues to be involved in the Tucson community by serving on several local boards, such as Sun Corridor Inc., the Southern Arizona YMCA, the Rio Nuevo Multipurpose Facilities District, Tucson Fire Foundation, Pima Community College Foundation. Edmund is also a member of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council (SALC), and the DMAFB 50. Edmund served on the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in Washington DC, for several years. Edmund was also appointed by former Mayor Bob Walkup to serve on the Tucson Regional Transportation Authority, and has also served on the Pima County Small Business Commission. Edmund is also the Chairman of the PIKE Alumni Association, and the Chairman of the Southern Arizona Hispanic Republicans.

In 2001, Edmund was awarded the Minority Retail Business of the Year, while also being nominated for Top Business Growth by Wells Fargo. Throughout the years there have been numerous newspaper articles written about Edmund, highlighting his community involvement efforts and his role as one of Tucson’s Hispanic business leaders. In November of 2004, Edmund was named the Hispanic Businessman of the Year by the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Tucson. Edmund, age 30 at the time, was the youngest businessman to ever be given this honor. In 2008, was honored with the “Rising Star Award” from the Hispanic Professional Action Committee. In 2012 was honored with the “Breathe of Life” award from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for his work in our community. Edmund has been inducted into the Sabino High School Hall of Fame, the Pi Kappa Alpha Hall of Honor, and the Southern Arizona YMCA Hall of Fame.
