Recent Project Successes and Announcements FY 22/23

Business Attraction and Expansion Successes July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023

Advanced Financial Company, a leader in consumer loan servicing technology and solutions for Fintech lenders, banks, and investor-owned portfolios, is expanding in Tucson. Advanced Financial Company plans to hire 152 employees, primarily in customer service. The expansion will create a total economic impact of $135 million over the next five years.

American Battery Factory (ABF) has selected Tucson for the first in a planned series of battery cell gigafactories based in the United States. The site will serve as ABF’s official headquarters and will be the country’s largest Gigafactory for the production of lithium iron phosphate battery cells. At 2 million square feet, the factory will create 1,000 jobs with a total economic impact of $3.1 billion.

Chrome Hearts, a Los Angeles based luxury goods and fashion company, selected Tucson to expand their manufacturing operations where they will produce jewelry, apparel, furniture, and high-end accessories. With the purchase of 40 acres and the 117,000 SF building at 8500 South Rita Road, the expansion will create 150 jobs with a total economic impact of $352 million over the next five years.

Microstar Logistics, the world’s leading provider of circular, outsourced supply chain solutions for the beer industry, has selected Tucson to build their new facility. The 270,000 square foot building adds to MicroStar’s repair and maintenance capabilities to service millions of kegs and new, reusable pallets each year. The operation will provide over 200 new jobs and a total economic impact of $382 million.

Pony.ai, a global autonomous driving technology company, selected Tucson to begin testing its autonomous vehicles with safety drivers behind the wheel. Pony.ai is partnering with Pima Community College and will base its operations at the new Automotive Technology & Innovation Center, located at its Downtown campus. Pony.ai will initially create 10 new jobs and a total economic impact of $8 million over the next five years.

Sion Power, a leading technology developer of next-generation batteries for electric vehicles (EV), is expanding its existing manufacturing operations in Tucson at their 111,400 SF facility at 6950 South Country Club. Scion Power’s expansion will be equipped with fully automated battery cell production capabilities, creating 150 jobs with a total five-year economic impact of $341 million.
