Business Attraction and Expansion Successes July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2024

Ajax Metal Forming Solutions, a metal forming company specializing in producing metal parts for OEMS and OEM suppliers, is expanding in Tucson with the purchase of a 30,000 SF facility. The expansion provides Ajax with an opportunity to serve customers in the Southwest, creating an economic impact of $22M in 5 years.

American Battery Factory broke ground in October 2023 on their 2,000,000 SF gigafactory, representing a $3.1B economic impact. The first phase of construction is expected to be completed by 2025, with plans to utilize the region’s high-capacity border and transportation infrastructure to ship battery cells to nearby markets.

Ascent Aviation Services broke ground at Pinal Air Park for two new wide-body aircraft hangers, where the company will convert two lines of Boeing B777-300ER aircraft for Israel Aerospace Industries. The expansion in Southern Arizona will have an economic impact of $1B over 5 years.

BD (Becton, Dickinson, and Company), a leading global medical technology company, broke ground on an $80M state-of-the-art facility in Tucson that will be a hub for the company’s supply chain and serve as a final-stage manufacturing and sterilization center, creating an overall economic impact of $137M. The new 120,000-square-foot facility is being constructed on approximately 32 acres at the northeast corner of Valencia and Kolb Road.

Belden announced an expansion into a brand new 300,000SF facility near the Tucson International Airport earlier this year. Belden operates a plant in Nogales, Sonora, that produces 7.4M feet of cable per day. That cable is used in data centers, broadcast, and industrial applications. The commitment to the Tucson region will have an impact of $39M over 5 years.

MicroStar Logistics is expanding its network of keg and pallet quality centers with the construction of a new 270,000 square foot building, adding to their repair and maintenance capabilities to service millions of kegs and new, reusable pallets. The operation will create a total economic impact of $382M.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aviation Group, MHI RJ, renewed its commitment to Tucson with a labor expansion at their TUS facility, with the goal of adding hundreds of jobs over the next 3 years. The expansion is aimed at addressing an increase in customer demand. The expansion in Tucson would result in a 5-year economic impact of $475M.

SkyWest is building a new aircraft maintenance hangar at TUS, leasing 14 airside acres for the construction of a 160,000 SF MRO facility, which will be complete in February 2025. The project represents a 5-year, $104M economic impact.

TQL (Total Quality Logistics), the second largest freight brokerage in North America, is expanding its presence in Arizona with new office space in Tucson, leasing a 7,000 SF space near the Williams Center on East Broadway. The project will have a total economic impact of $42M.
